FARMINGTON, Conn. (TCD) -- A 24-year-old man stands accused of fatally shooting his sister’s fiancé while he was in bed, and then fleeing in the victim’s car.
According to a news release, Farmington Police received a call on March 16 at 10:56 p.m. about shooting at a home on Sunset Terrace. Responding officers found a 32-year-old man suffering from several gunshot wounds. He was transported to St. Francis Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just after midnight.
Farmington Police said the suspect was not on the scene when they arrived and allegedly left in the victim’s vehicle. WTIC-TV reports the victim was identified as Jorge Camacho and the suspect is Deandre Linder.
Camacho’s fiancée, Lyneisha Barber, and her two young children were also in the home when the shots rang out, but WTIC reports they were not injured. Barber is reportedly pregnant with their child.
According to the case report cited by WTIC, Linder allegedly took Camacho’s Volkswagen Passat and was seen driving it on Farmington Avenue. Police conducted a traffic stop and arrested him. While getting into the police cruiser, Linder reportedly told officers, "I had a reason, though."
Barber told police during her interview that she woke up to her brother telling Camacho, "I know what you did," then shooting her fiancé. Camacho reportedly "sat up in bed and yelled 'What.'"
Linder walked out of the house, which caused the alarm to go off, and when Barber turned on the light, she saw Camacho "covered in blood."
Linder reportedly lived in the Sunset Terrace residence with Barber and Camacho. Barber, according to the police report, said Camacho "had given Linder two weeks to find a job or move out."
He is being held on charges of murder, reckless endangerment, two counts of risk of injury to child, and criminal possession of a pistol/revolver. His bond is set at $1 million.
