SURPRISE, Ariz. (TCD) -- A 27-year-old man was arrested over the weekend for allegedly stabbing his girlfriend multiple times with three different knives during a dispute.
According to the Arizona Republic, on Sunday, Feb. 6, Raymond Maltos reported to police that his 21-year-old girlfriend was bleeding and had approximately 30 stab wounds. The victim was reportedly transported to a hospital to treat her life-threatening injuries, which included cuts to her legs and multiple fractures to her head and hand.
According to KSAZ-TV, Maltos had made a statement about his girlfriend of two years, saying, "I just couldn’t stand her anymore." Maltos also reportedly told police that his girlfriend was having a hard time with her homework, so he left work early to spend time with her. Court documents obtained by KSAZ said, "Raymond advised [the victim’s] father is strict and demands high performance academically that has taken a toll on her."
As he tried to comfort her, the Arizona Republic reports that Maltos told authorities his girlfriend thought he was mocking her. Maltos was allegedly overcome by violent rage, and they began to fight.
According to KSAZ, Maltos grabbed a knife from the kitchen and stabbed her. The knife reportedly broke, so Maltos found another knife in the kitchen and continued to attack his girlfriend. After the second knife broke, Maltos allegedly used a handmade knife and resumed the attack until his girlfriend told him to stop.
According to the Arizona Republic, Maltos was arrested and booked into the Maricopa County jail and charged with one count of attempted murder, one count of aggravated assault, and one count of disorderly conduct and endangerment. He reportedly remains held on $250,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 16.
