FORREST CITY, Ark. (TCD) --
An Arkansas man suspected of stabbing his wife's boyfriend was arrested Friday after getting stuck in a chimney as he attempted to flee from police.
Forrest City Police said officers responding to a reported stabbing at a residence on Albert Avenue about 4 a.m. Friday saw a man running from the residence.
Inside the residence, officers found 28-year-old Jimmie Rogers with multiple stab wounds to his upper body. Rogers was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officers determined the suspect is married to a woman who lives at the address. The husband, 35-year-old Elliot Stewart, was identified as the suspect.
“Early indications of this investigation are that this crime may have been committed by a husband on a current boyfriend,” according to Forrest City Police.
After clearing the scene, officers canvassing the area where the suspect was last seen running received a report from a homeowner on a nearby street who said an unknown person was stuck in their chimney.
Forrest City Fire Chief Shane Dallas told KLRT-TV that firefighters were "able to go in from the bottom" in order to get Stewart out. He said they "disassembling the chimney, removing some bricks and some metal bracing and things of that nature, and then we were able to assist him in sliding out."
Photos from the Forrest City Fire Department showed firefighters on the roof of the home as well as Stewart being led away in handcuffs around 8 a.m. Stewart was hospitalized for treatment before he was booked.
Stewart was booked into the St. Francis County Detention Center on charges of first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor, criminal trespass, and second-degree criminal mischief. He was held on $1 million bond.
