MONTGOMERY, Ala. (TCD) -- A 33-year-old man was recently sentenced to almost four decades in prison for sexually exploiting two children.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Middle District of Alabama, the investigation began in September 2020 when authorities in Dallas, Texas, learned about sexually explicit images of minors being shared on a messaging application called Kik.
The images were traced back to Brandon Hart. The Attorney's Office said Hart confessed that he induced two children to "engage in sexually explicit conduct for him to photograph." He recorded the images while the minors were unconscious and then distributed the media with Kik.
In September 2020, Hart was initially charged with 40 crimes, including sodomy, voyeurism, and sexual torture, the Alabama Real-Time News reports.
During the investigation, authorities concluded that Hart "sodomized, sexually abused and sexually tortured the children along with producing, disseminating and possessing multiple sexually explicit photos and videos of underage children," according to records obtained by the Alabama Real-Time News.
Hart pleaded not guilty on June 29, but three months later, on Sept. 30, the Attorney's Office said he was sentenced to 38 years in prison and will be on supervised release for the rest of his life. Hart will also have to register as a sex offender.
