CUMBERLAND, R.I. (TCD) -- An investigation is underway after a married couple with children was found shot dead in their home.
According to a news release from the Cumberland Police Department, on June 22 at approximately 6:40 a.m., officers responded to 28 Birchwood Drive to a report of two adults suffering from gunshot wounds. At the scene, 42-year-old Courtney Huard and 51-year-old Eric Huard were reportedly pronounced dead.
Police are actively investigating the crime with the help of the Rhode Island State Police and Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Neronha’s office.
According to police, authorities believe this was an isolated incident, and it was not a "random act of violence."
The victims’ three children were reportedly found in the home uninjured.
Eric Huard worked as a lineman for the National Grid for the past five years and had also worked as the aquatic athletics director for the MacColl YMCA for 19 years, his obituary says. He also reportedly worked as a photographer for the Pawtucket Times. According to Courtney Huard’s obituary, she was the owner of True Self Nutrition LLC.
In a statement, Cumberland Police Chief Matthew J. Benson said, "I would like to reiterate my deepest condolences and sympathies to the Huard family, including any friends and family and especially the three children left during this most difficult time."
