HUMBLE, Texas (TCD) -- A 24-year-old father walking into a Chuck E. Cheese for his daughter's sixth birthday was reportedly shot to death on New Year’s Eve.
According to KPRC-TV, the incident happened while Calogero Duenes, the victim, was holding his daughter's birthday cake. Amber Uresti, the victim's wife, told KTRK-TV that she and her daughters, 6 and 3 years old, went inside the restaurant before her husband came in and said, "I saw him walking towards us. I told the lady my husband was on his way. I pointed at him, and the instant I turned around, he came running in through the door and he kept saying, 'I got shot! I got shot!'"
KTRK reports that police were able to obtain surveillance video that showed Duenes' confrontation with the shooter. The suspect reportedly drove down the wrong way in the parking lot, nearly hitting Duenes. He and the suspect allegedly got into an argument, and a witness said they heard three gunshots moments later.
Duenes' wife told KTRK that her husband had no weapons on him, and she didn't understand why the incident occurred. Duenes was transported to the hospital, where he passed away from his injuries.
The shooter is still at large, and the investigation remains ongoing. Police told KTRK that the suspect fled the scene before they arrived. The shooter is believed to be driving a black Ford.
