WALKER COUNTY, Ga. (TCD) -- An 81-year-old sheriff’s deputy stands accused of raping a woman while on duty and in uniform.
According to a news release from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, on May 11, the bureau was asked to assist the Lafayette Police Department in an investigation of a reported rape by a deputy. Upon further investigation, authorities reportedly learned Walker County Sheriff’s Deputy Jerry Glover allegedly sexually assaulted a female victim.
Glover was fired May 27, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports. Four days later, on Tuesday, May 31, Glover was arrested and charged with rape, violation of oath of office, and false imprisonment, according to the Bureau.
Walker County Sheriff Steve Wilson told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, "As I was briefed on the investigation, it was extremely disappointing to hear the evidence that was being told to me, and that’s when I decided last week that it reached the level that [Glover] had to be terminated."
Glover reportedly worked for the sheriff’s office’s court services division and had worked as a deputy for multiple stints. In the 1970s, Glover also worked for the Atlanta Police Department, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.
