LAKE CHARLES, La. (TCN) -- A 60-year-old man was recently convicted of firing multiple rounds of bullets at juveniles as they were fleeing his property, striking one in the head.
According to the Calcasieu Parish District Attorney’s Office, a judge found David Doyle guilty on July 31 of two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm and one count of aggravated battery. Doyle is scheduled to be sentenced on Oct. 24.
On the morning of May 7, 2023, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a home to a report of a shooting and found a 14-year-old girl suffering from a gunshot wound to the back of the head. Upon further investigation, authorities reportedly learned that "several juveniles were playing hide-and-seek in the area and were hiding on the neighbor’s property."
According to the sheriff’s office, Doyle told officials he "observed shadows outside his home," so he retrieved a firearm, went back outside, and shot at the juveniles as they were running away. The defendant reportedly claimed he "unknowingly hit the girl."
The 14-year-old victim was transported to a hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
