LOGANPORT, Ind. (TCD) -- Two 12-year-old girls were arrested and charged for allegedly assaulting a young girl at a sleepover over the weekend.
According to WXIN-TV, Logansport Police received a call Feb. 26 at approximately 7:30 a.m. because a young girl had been "battered." The victim, also a 12-year-old girl, went to a house for a sleepover, but the girl’s aunt said she was "tortured, beaten, confined."
The girl’s aunt Renita Contreras told WXIN, "Two juvenile females sat on top of her for two hours so she could not breathe. They burned her with cigarette lighters."
Jaimie Tribbett, the girl’s mom, said, "They didn’t bully her. They tortured her. Mentally, physically tortured my daughter, and it’s not right."
The suspects allegedly shaved part of the victim’s hair and cut her face.
The Pharos Tribune reports one of the suspects was accused of criminal confinement, intimidation, battery resulting in serious bodily injury, and battery resulting in bodily injury. The other girl has reportedly not been accused of any crimes yet.
Cass County Prosecutor Noah Schafer told the Pharos Tribune, "You can’t say that a child is charged with a crime the same way you would with an adult. They are alleged to have committed acts that, had they been committed by an adult, would have been felonies."
