Suzanne Morphew case: Husband arrested for murder

UPDATE May 6, 2021:

Barry Morphew, 53, made his first court appearance Thursday. The Denver Post reports Morphew will be allowed to stay in contact with his two daughters, 11th Judicial District Chief Judge Patrick Murphy ruled Thursday. He is scheduled to return to court on May 27.

Barry Morphew was held without bond, according to the Chaffee County Sheriff's Office.

CHAFFEE COUNTY, Colo. (TCD) --

The husband of a Colorado woman who went missing on Mother’s Day in 2020 was arrested for murder, authorities announced Wednesday.

Barry Morphew is facing charges of first-degree murder, tampering with evidence, and attempting to influence a public servant, KDVR-TV reports.

Suzanne Morphew, 49, was last seen going for a bike ride on May 10, 2020. Law enforcement agencies have launched extensive searches for her, but she has not been found.

Barry Morphew was arrested Wednesday, according to a Chaffee County court filling the Denver Post quotes.

The Chaffee County, Colorado Sheriff’s Office, the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the FBI are all involved in the investigation.

The Chaffee County Sheriff’s Office was scheduled to hold a news conference to update the public on the case Wednesday.
