'Friendly acquaintances' accused of kidnapping 2-week-old infants from hotel room

LIVONIA, Mich. (TCD) -- Newborn twins who were taken from a hotel room, sparking an Amber Alert, were safely dropped off at the Detroit Police Department.
On Monday, Aug. 21, Michigan State Police said the Livonia Police Department issued an Amber Alert on behalf of 14-day-old twins Montana Bridges and Matthew Bridges, who were reportedly kidnapped from a hotel room Sunday, Aug. 20. Police said the twin boys were most likely only wearing diapers when they were taken.
In a press conference Monday, Detroit Police Chief James White said the boys were taken to the police department’s 9th Precinct at approximately 9:30 a.m., though he did not specify who brought them in. Police transported the children immediately to a nearby hospital for an evaluation.
White said this remains a "wide-open investigation." The FBI and Michigan State Police assisted the Detroit and Livonia police departments in the search.
Livonia Police Capt. Gregory Yon said the mother briefly left the twins with two "friendly acquaintances," and when she returned, the boys were nowhere to be found.
According to WXYZ-TV, prior to the family staying at a hotel, two masked men allegedly went to the mother’s house and tried to break in. A relative told WXYZ the family went to the hotel "because she didn’t feel safe after that happened."
The relative said the mother "befriended these two ladies on Facebook, saying she needed help with clothes and diapers."
The boys are reportedly back with their parents.
