LAS VEGAS (TCN) -- A former Las Vegas Metro Police Department officer was convicted this week of killing her ex-son-in-law during a custodial visit in 2019.
The 8th Judicial District Court announced on X that a jury found Pamela Bordeaux guilty of murder with the use of a deadly weapon in connection with the death of Sean Babbit. She will be sentenced Aug. 20.
According to KLAS-TV, Bordeaux could face a range of sentences, including 20 to 50 years, life without parole, or 20 years to life in prison. She could face additional time for the use of a deadly weapon enhancement.
On April 22, 2019, Babbit had a scheduled an approved visit with the child he shared with Bordeaux’s daughter. Bordeaux and Babbit reportedly got into an argument while the daughter and the child were upstairs, and she shot him at least 10 times.
KLAS reports Bordeaux’s attorneys argued Babbit should not have been allowed around her family because they believed he was dangerous.
A forensic psychologist testified at Bordeaux’s trial, "Mr. Babbitt’s impulsive behavior, addiction to extreme pornography, and inadequate therapy significantly contributed to his propensity for violence. The perception of imminent danger felt by Ms. Bordeaux is consistent with the evidence of Mr. Babbitt’s escalating and volatile behavior."
Babbit reportedly wrote a letter that said, "I am an unfit parent."
According to the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Bordeaux became upset when Babbit sought changes to his custody arrangement. Bordeaux’s daughter had full custody of their child, and he was allowed visits for one hour per week.
Clark County Chief Deputy District Attorney Michelle Fleck reportedly said in her closing arguments, "What the evidence proves, beyond a reasonable doubt, is that Pamela Bordeaux acted as judge, jury, and literal executioner in a custody matter."
Bordeaux had been with the Las Vegas Metro Police Department for 23 years and served four years in the Army.
