DELRAY BEACH, Fla. (TCD) -- Police are investigating a homicide after three suitcases containing human remains were found floating in an intracoastal waterway last week.
According to a statement, on Friday, July 24, someone contacted the Delray Beach Police Department after seeing "something strange" in the water. Detectives arrived at the scene on the 1000 block of Palm Trail and discovered a suitcase with body parts inside. Then, two other suitcases were discovered along the waterway nearby.
Delray Beach Police said the remains appear to be those of a white or Hispanic adult female who stood approximately 5-foot-4. The victim likely had tattooed eyebrows and was wearing a floral tank top, black undershirt, and black shorts.
In a press conference Monday, July 24, Delray Beach Police Chief Russ Mager said the remains were "hanging outside the suitcase" and "protruding." Several hours later, two other cases were found.
Sgt. Casey Kelley believes the woman’s death is an "isolated incident" and her body was in an "early state of decomposition."
The victim’s remains were taken to the medical examiner’s office for identification.
