DELAWARE COUNTY, Pa. (TCD) -- A 30-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly lit his girlfriend’s home on fire, killing the woman’s wheelchair-found 20-year-old sister, because she broke up with him.
According to Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer, on Sunday, Dec. 4, Aaron Christopher Clark allegedly went to his girlfriend’s home and tried to kill her entire family after she had ended the relationship with him the day prior. Some of the woman’s family members were able to escape, but her sister, Olivia Drasher, was killed in the fire. She reportedly had cerebral palsy and was nonverbal.
Stollsteimer called the fire "one of the most evil and vile acts I have ever seen," saying Drasher was "killed by smoke inhalation and her body literally being burnt to death."
Stollsteimer said, "She was in this house, unable to move, unable to communicate as her body is being fried and as she’s choking to death because of the smoke, all because Mr. Clark was angry about her older sister breaking up with him."
After Clark’s girlfriend broke up with him, he allegedly started sending her "threatening text messages," which even continued when he was taken into custody because he supposedly hid an Apple Watch in his rectum.
Mike Sousa, the Darby Township police chief, called Clark an "absolute monster."
He said firefighters made "numerous heroic attempts" to get in the home to save Drasher, but "intense smoke and fire" pushed them back.
Sousa also said at the news briefing he believed Clark knew Drasher was inside when he allegedly set the fire and was aware she would not be able to exit on her own.
According to NBC Philadelphia, Drasher’s sister and Clark were both employed by the U.S. Postal Service, and officials quickly changed her schedule so she would not be working at the same time as Clark. CBS Philadelphia reports Clark’s ex-girlfriend was not at home when the fire broke out.
Clark faces over 25 charges, including criminal homicide, murder, four counts of criminal attempt homicide, one count of arson, four counts of aggravated assault, and more.
