Man allegedly drunkenly confessed to new girlfriend that he is wanted for murder

POMEROY, Iowa (TCN) -- A man who has been wanted out of Houston for two years was arrested last week after he reportedly confessed to the woman he was dating that he killed his brother.

According to the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office, on Oct. 20 at 7:14 a.m., deputies received a call from a resident who said he kicked a man out who had recently been staying with him because he "admitted to being on the run for killing his own brother."

Deputies reportedly located the man walking on a highway in the direction of Fort Dodge and detained him at 7:33 a.m. The man reportedly initially provided law enforcement with a fake name, but less than an hour after he was taken into custody, he admitted his name was Kyle Andrew Coolack.

The sheriff’s office said Coolack had a murder warrant out for his arrest from over two years ago.

Houston Police said in a statement that on March 11, 2022, officers were called to an apartment on West Greens Road and found Brad Coolack deceased from multiple gunshot wounds. Police identified Kyle Coolack as a suspect in his brother's killing, and he was charged with murder in July 2022.

An affidavit filed in Harris County, Texas, alleges the brothers got into an argument on the night of the fatal shooting. At one point, Brad Coolack allegedly yelled, "You slept with my wife." A neighbor reportedly heard gunshots "immediately" after that comment was made. Brad Coolack's ex-wife confirmed with police that she and Kyle Coolack had an affair when Brad Coolack was deployed internationally.

KCCI-TV reports the resident who reported Coolack said he appeared homeless and had a sign saying he was a veteran who needed help. The man reportedly got Coolack a job and let him stay in his home. Coolack met the man’s sister, and the two started dating. The woman told KCCI that Coolack had too much to drink one night and "just kind of got mad and crazy and just bluntly told me that he had murdered his brother two years ago."

The woman texted her brother about Coolack’s confession, and Coolack reportedly admitted it to the brother as well. The brother told Coolack, who claimed his name was James, to get out of his house.

Coolack is awaiting extradition back to Texas.
