NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio (TCD) -- Police arrested a 32-year-old woman this week on suspicion of fatally stabbing a young boy and injuring his mother in the parking lot of a store.
On Monday, June 3, at approximately 3 p.m., North Olmsted Police officers responded to the parking lot outside of a Giant Eagle grocery store in reference to a possible stabbing. According to WJW-TV, the victims, 3-year-old Julian Wood and his mother, Margot Wood, were rushed to a hospital, where the young boy succumbed to his injuries. His mother is reportedly expected to survive.
Further investigation revealed the mother and her son headed back to their car after grocery shopping when Bionca Ellis allegedly ran up to them and stabbed the two with a kitchen knife. Investigators allege Ellis stabbed the young child in the face and back, and she stabbed his mother in the shoulder all within five seconds, WJW-TV reports.
Officers reportedly found Ellis walking toward a road with the knife and took her into custody. Police believe the stabbing was unprovoked, and the victims had not contacted the suspect prior to the attack.
Ellis reportedly appeared for her arraignment via video on Tuesday, June 4, and her bond was set at $1 million. She faces charges of aggravated murder, WJW reports.
In a statement released by police, North Olmsted Mayor Nicole Dailey Jones said, "Our hearts go out to the two victims of what appears to be a random act of violence."
A spokesperson with Giant Eagle reportedly said, "We were heartbroken to learn of the passing of the young victim in yesterday’s senseless act of violence. Our thoughts are with the child, his mother, and their loved ones during this unimaginably difficult time."
