DUXBURY, Mass. (TCD) -- A grand jury returned indictments for a 32-year-old woman accused of fatally strangling her three young children this year.
In a statement Friday, Sept. 15, Plymouth County District Attorney Tim Cruz announced Lindsay Clancy is being charged with three counts of murder and three counts of strangulation for the deaths of 5-year-old Cora Clancy, 3-year-old Dawson Clancy, and 8-month-old Callan Clancy. Cruz said Lindsay Clancy is being held without bail at a medical facility and is receiving treatment.
On Jan. 24 at approximately 6:11 p.m., Duxbury Police Department officers responded to a home on Summer Street after a man called to report a suicide attempt involving an adult female who jumped out of a window. When officers and paramedics arrived, they located Clancy and transported her to a nearby hospital. Then, first responders found three children "unconscious with obvious signs of trauma."
Cora and Dawson were taken to Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital, where they were pronounced deceased. Medics flew Callan to a hospital in Boston, where he died several days later.
Cruz said the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined Cora and Dawson died from asphyxia, while Callan’s cause of death was complication of asphyxia.
Court documents cited by Boston.com say Patrick Clancy found his wife after he returned home from picking up food. When he asked where their children were, his wife reportedly responded, "In the basement."
Lindsay Clancy allegedly used exercise bands to strangle her three children.
