Las Vegas Strip stabbing leaves 2 dead and 6 injured

LAS VEGAS (TCD) -- A 32-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly went on a stabbing rampage on the Las Vegas Strip, killing two and injuring six.
According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, on Thursday, Oct. 6, at 11:42 a.m., officers responded to a stabbing call in front of a casino on the 3100 block of South Las Vegas Boulevard in which six people were injured and one person was killed. The victims were transported to nearby hospitals "with unknown extent of injuries."
Police took the suspect, Yoni Barrios, into custody.
KLAS-TV identified the deceased victims as 47-year-old Brent Allan Hallett and 30-year-old Maris Mareen Digiovanni. They both reportedly lived in Las Vegas.
In a press release, Las Vegas Metropolitan Police said there were eight victims total. One was pronounced dead at the scene and the second at University Medical Center. Three victims are in critical condition and the other three are stable.
Barrios was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on two counts of open murder with a deadly weapon and six counts of attempted murder with a deadly weapon.
In a press conference, Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said the victims are a "combination of locals and tourists," and Barrios was arrested "within minutes."
Deputy Chief James LaRochelle also spoke at the press conference and said the attack "appears unprovoked." Barrios allegedly used a "large knife with a long blade," and investigators recovered the weapon.
