OLALLA, Wash. (TCD) -- A 40-year-old Tacoma-area man is accused of killing a married couple and leaving their bodies in a trash can on their porch.
On Thursday, Aug. 18, Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call about "suspicious circumstances" at a home on the 12900 block of Shady Glen Avenue SE. The caller said she went to check on her parents at their residence, but they were nowhere to be found. She also reportedly noticed signs of forced entry and blood.
Kitsap County deputies arrived at the scene and found the two adults deceased on the property, which they called a "gruesome discovery."
According to the statement, Steven and Mina Shulz, both 51, died from "homicidal violence."
On Aug. 20, the Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office identified Shaun Rose as the suspect in the Shulzes' deaths and issued a warrant for his arrest. He was arrested "after a struggle" at a gas station in Tacoma on Aug. 21.
Kitsap County detectives reportedly saw Rose driving a Buick sedan in Mason County and was pursued by Mason County deputies before they lost him due to "erratic and dangerous driving on his part."
Rose allegedly stole another car in Pierce County and drove to Tacoma. He allegedly got rid of that car before heading to the gas station.
According to KCPQ-TV, investigators found the victims' bodies in a garbage can near the deck of their home. They had reportedly been shot to death.
Mina and Steven Shulz reportedly owned E2W Brewing and were scheduled to open a brewery within the next month.
The Tacoma News Tribune reports Rose lived next to the Shulzes in an RV on a neighboring property.
Kitsap County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Alex Takos said, "This by all accounts appears to be a random act of violence."
Jail records show he is being held without bail.
