PORTLAND, Ore. (TCD) -- A 26-year-old man was taken into custody following a shooting outside of a strip club Sunday in the city’s Mt. Scott-Arleta neighborhood.
The Portland Police Bureau said officers responded to a shooting on the 8000 block of Southeast Foster Road on Dec. 19 at approximately 2:08 a.m. They found a deceased adult male on the scene and called on the Homicide Unit to investigate. Police said they believe some witnesses "may have left the scene without speaking" to them.
Homicide detectives later arrested Borissean Washington on first-degree manslaughter, second-degree assault, and unlawful use of a weapon charges.
The Oregonian/Oregon Live reports court documents identified the victim as 27-year-old Daqun Turner. He reportedly died from a gunshot wound to his upper chest.
According to court documents cited by The Oregonian/Oregon Live, Washington, who had been drinking that night, got into an altercation with Travis Tully Tsosie because he allegedly made derogatory comments about Washington’s girlfriend. Tsosie allegedly punched Washington in the face, and they got into a fight. Another man reportedly joined in and Washington walked back into the club.
Court documents say Washington exited the club with Turner, who pulled out a gun with an extended magazine. Washington allegedly took the gun from Turner and pointed it at Tsosie. Washington allegedly held the gun in his left hand "then cocks his arm back and hits Tsosie in the head area with the firearm," Multnomah County Deputy District Attorney wrote in the affidavit.
The gun reportedly went off when Washington hit Tsosie in the head, and Turner fell to the ground. According to the affidavit cited by The Oregonian/Oregon Live, Washington says he did not pull the trigger.
Washington was booked into the Multnomah County Jail and was being held on $505,000 bond.
According to The Oregonian/Oregon Live, Turner’s death brings the city’s 2021 homicide count to a record-breaking 85.
