North Carolina man and woman arrested after toddler overdoses on suspected fentanyl

MONROE, N.C. (TCD) -- A man and woman were arrested this week after a toddler was brought into the hospital for an overdose.
According to the Monroe Police Department, on Tuesday, Jan. 4, police officers responded to Atrium Union Hospital after a 14-month-old child was brought in and treated for an overdose of suspected fentanyl.
Police say a search warrant was obtained and executed at 1038 S. Church St. Tyler Shelton Perry was reportedly arrested as a result.
According to police, he faces multiple charges, including felony child abuse, trafficking in opium or heroin, possession with intent to manufacture, sell, deliver a controlled substance, possession of Schedule I, manufacture marijuana, possession of cocaine, and maintain a dwelling for use, storage, or sale of controlled substance.
On Thursday, Jan. 6, police announced Amber Nichole Gale was also arrested for felony child abuse in connection with the case.
Police did not disclose the relationship between the suspects and the child.
Perry remains held at the Union County Jail on $550,000 bond. As of Jan. 6, Gale was at the Union County Jail awaiting a bond.
According to police, the toddler remains in a local medical facility, and the child’s condition is improving.
