HOUSTON (TCD) -- The rapper Takeoff, who was a member of the the popular trio Migos, was reportedly fatally shot outside a bowling alley early Tuesday morning.
Houston Police tweeted officers responded to a shooting call at 1200 Polk Street at approximately 2:30 a.m. and found one victim deceased upon their arrival. Two other victims were taken to hospitals in private cars.
In a press conference Tuesday afternoon, Houston Police officials confirmed the victim was Takeoff, whose real name is Kirsnick Khari Ball. The two other victims, a 23-year-old male and 24-year-old female, went to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and are expected to survive.
Takeoff's rep initially confirmed his death to The Associated Press. He was 28.
Houston Police said the shooting occurred at 810 Billiards & Bowling at 1201 San Jacinto. Takeoff attended a private party in the building, and after it ended, a large group stood in front of the front door. An argument allegedly ensued, which resulted in Takeoff's death.
According to KPRC-TV, 40 to 50 people were reportedly at the location for a party, including Quavo, another member of Migos. Houston Police reportedly said the victim suffered gunshot wounds to the head or neck. Officers also reportedly located several shell casings near the bowling area and pool hall.
Migos was nominated for two Grammys at the awards show in 2018 for Best Rap Album and Best Rap Performance. In October, Takeoff and Quavo released an album called "Only Built For Infinity Links."
Houston Police Chief Troy Finner said he wants to speak with leaders of the hip hop community "to see how we can taper things down."
