OSTON (TCD) -- A 37-year-old man was arrested for allegedly biting a Massachusetts State Trooper and breaking his skin while attempting to grab the trooper’s gun.
According to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, on April 9 just after 2 a.m., a Massachusetts State Police trooper responded to a call about a man on Route 93 Northbound near Massachusetts Avenue close to South Bay shopping center. The suspect, Joshua Ocheltree, reportedly "ran in front of the responding trooper’s cruiser and onto the median."
The trooper reportedly told Ocheltree to get off the median, but Ocheltree allegedly "threw an object at the trooper" and ran away onto Route 93 Southbound.
The District Attorney’s Office says the trooper caught up with Ocheltree and attempted to restrain him. Ocheltree allegedly tried to grab the trooper’s firearm, and, according to the statement, "bit the officer on the wrist and leg, causing him to bleed."
Three bystanders reportedly helped the trooper restrain Ocheltree.
Backup arrived at the scene and transported Ocheltree to Boston Medical Center "due to his level of impairment." He was discharged the following day.
During his booking, officers reportedly found a "folded-up dollar bill and a substance they believed to be heroin" in his possession.
Ocheltree was charged with assault and battery of a police officer, mayhem, disorderly conduct, and possession of heroin.
