NEW CASTLE, Ind. (WXIN) -- A New Castle father and his girlfriend are facing murder and neglect charges in connection to the death of the man's 4-year-old son.
Darien Davis, 4, died in January at a trailer home in the 300 block of Glenwood Drive. The boy's father Jacob Davis called authorities to the home after he said he found the boy unresponsive in the living room.
Investigators said the boy had “cuts, abrasions, and bruising over most of his body. Most notable was a cut over his right eye and the eye appeared swollen shut.” Officials said Darien weighed just 25 pounds and was 3 feet, 3 inches tall. An autopsy found he died due to complications of severe dehydration and malnutrition and neglect.
Jacob Davis, 28, and Michelle Key, 34, were charged Monday with murder and neglect of a dependent resulting in death.
The Star Press reports that on the day of the child's death, authorities said they found "numerous amounts of cat and dog feces throughout the trailer," and also noted its thermostat was set at 90 degrees.
