BARNWELL COUNTY, S.C. (TCN) -- A 62-year-old woman stands accused of killing a pregnant teen who was just days away from giving birth to a baby girl named Londyn.
According to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), Maylashia Hogg was last seen on Feb. 8 and was initially reported missing to the Barnwell Police Department.
Hogg's baby, Londyn Charity, was due Feb. 14, WACH-TV reports. A family member told the news source, "She was excited to be a mom."
Officials reportedly found Hogg's body in a ditch on Feb. 18, and an autopsy determined she died of multiple sharp force wounds, stabs, and incisions.
According to SLED, investigators determined Jacqueline Reid allegedly stabbed Hogg to death with a sharp-edged weapon. Authorities said Hogg was last seen "in close proximity to the defendant's residence and where the body was discovered."
Reid faces two counts of murder. Officials did not disclose the relationship between the suspect and victim.
Barnwell Police Chief Michael Butts said, "Please keep Maylashia's loved ones in your thoughts. We must continue to care for each other, to honor Maylashia and Londyn's memories, and come together to heal."
