RIVERSIDE, Calif. (TCD) -- A 23-year-old woman was arrested after she allegedly posed as a nurse at a hospital and tried to take a newborn.
According to the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department, on July 14 at 10:30 a.m., deputies from the Moreno Valley station responded to the Riverside University Health System — Medical Center for a report of a woman impersonating a nurse. Deputies reportedly learned that Jesenea Miron allegedly pretended to be a new nurse at the hospital and "gained access to a medical unit where newborn infants were present."
Miron allegedly went into a patient’s room and attempted to take the newborn and leave. Hospital staff reportedly "confronted" Miron, then contacted security about her. Miron, however, reportedly fled before she could be caught by security officers or deputies.
Investigators identified Miron as the suspect and obtained a search warrant for her Moreno Valley home, where they found "items of evidentiary value" inside. She was arrested and booked on a kidnapping charge.
According to KTLA-TV, Riverside University Health System — Medical Center CEO Jennifer Cruikshank said in a statement the hospital is looking into "how the suspect accessed the patient’s room and interacted with the family."
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office says Miron’s bail was set at $1 million.
