MANCHESTER, Conn. (TCD) — The body of a 22-year-old woman was found in a river recently after she had been missing for nearly six months.
According to Manchester Police, on Monday, May 30, officials from the Wethersfield Police, Wethersfield Volunteer Fire Department, and Glastonbury Volunteer Fire Department recovered Sherrian Howe’s body from the Connecticut River. Howe’s remains were transported to the office of the chief medical examiner for an autopsy.
Her cause and manner of death are still pending.
Howe was reported missing to Manchester Police on Dec. 21. According to the Journal Inquirer, Howe reportedly left her home in the middle of the night and had not been seen since. Security camera footage allegedly showed her walking outside at around 4 a.m. with two duffel bags.
Howe reportedly emailed her sister Nyesha Howe-Denize the next day to tell her she was safe but wanted a "break from everything."
The Journal Inquirer reports Howe’s car was located in a CVS parking lot a week later, and her laptop, cellphone, and other personal items were found in a nearby hotel.
Howe’s family is frustrated at the police’s alleged slow response to her disappearance and the investigation into it. Howe-Denize told WTIC in February that Manchester Police were doing the "bare minimum."
