SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (KRON) -- Former San Francisco 49er Dana Stubblefield was found guilty of rape on Monday, according to the Santa Clara County District Attorney's Office.
The retired professional football player was convicted Monday of rape after he lured a 31-year-old developmentally disabled woman to his home with a promise of a babysitting job, the district attorney's office said. The two had communicated through a babysitter-service website.
Stubblefield, 49, sexually assaulted the victim in April 2015 at his Morgan Hill home in Morgan Hill. The district attorney's office said that after the assault, the victim immediately went to Morgan Hill Police to report the crime.
Stubblefield was found guilty of rape by force, oral copulation by force and false imprisonment. The jury also found that he used a gun in the assault. After the verdict was read, Stubblefield was remanded to jail without bail pending sentencing, when he faces 15 years to life in prison.
The San Francisco Chronicle reports Stubblefield said he needed a sitter for his children during the initial 20-minute interview in 2015. The victim left, but then drove back after Stubblefield sent her a text saying he wanted to pay her for her time. When the woman returned to the home, Stubblefield raped her and paid her $80, police said. The woman immediately reported the crime to Morgan Hill Police and gave the money to officers. DNA reportedly helped implicate Stubblefield in the crime.
