GREEN BAY, Wis. (TCD) -- A 48-year-old man is accused of fatally stabbing his girlfriend and her friend after allegedly finding them engaging in sexual activity.
According to a news release from the Green Bay Police Department, on Jan. 29 at approximately 11:15 a.m., officers responded to a duplex on the 1600 block of Elkay Lane, where they found two women, ages 58 and 53, deceased. The women were later identified by police as Rhonda Cegelski, of Green Bay, and Paula O’Connor, of Bellevue.
At the scene, officers discovered blood and bloody footprints all along the duplex, WFRV-TV reports. One of the victims was reportedly found with a knife sticking out of her neck and one suffered "very large" cuts.
Autopsies revealed they died due to multiple sharp force injuries, according to WFRV, and their deaths were ruled homicides.
Police identified Richard Sotka as the suspect, and according to WKRV, he was dating one of the victims, but the news source did not specify which one.
Police said Sotka was arrested in Arkansas on Sunday, Jan. 29, shortly before 3 p.m., during a traffic stop. During an interview, Sotka admitted to killing the women and said he was "humiliated" after finding his girlfriend and her friend in the middle of a sexual act, WLUK-TV reports.
Sotka reportedly told police that the women asked him to leave, but he couldn’t because of a GPS monitor he had to wear as part of a stalking and restraining order violation charge out of Oconto County, and he "just lost it."
According to the criminal complaint obtained by WLUK, Sotka said, "I’m guilty of killing these girls, but I’m not guilty of what they said I did in Oconto County."
Authorities reportedly saw Sotka’s monitor had been cut off near U.S. 41 southbound and Freedom Road offramp, and they were able to locate him in Arkansas.
Police said Sotka remains held in the Mississippi County Detention Center in Arkansas for first-degree intentional homicide, and he is awaiting extradition back to Wisconsin.
According to WLUK, he is also facing charges for cutting off his monitoring device, domestic abuse, and bail jumping.
