DELEON SPRINGS, Fla. (TCD) -- Deputies arrested a 38-year-old man last week after he allegedly shot his friend in the legs during an argument.
According to the Volusia County Sheriff's Office, on Friday, Aug. 11, at approximately 4 a.m., deputies were called to Desoto Avenue for reports of a shooting. The victim was reportedly already en route to the hospital, but the suspect, Thomas Arney, remained at the scene. Arney informed deputies that he and the victim, who remained unnamed, got into a dispute after they had been "outside drinking all night."
During their night of drinking, the men reportedly "got into an argument that escalated."
Arney told deputies his friend began breaking car windows and then "moved toward him aggressively," which caused Arney to shoot him once in each leg. A witness at the scene reportedly told deputies the victim "was not threatening Arney in any way before the shooting."
When the victim was on the ground, Arney allegedly stood over him and pistol-whipped him.
The Volusia County Sheriff's Office said the victim is not cooperating with the investigation.
Arney was booked into the Volusia County Jail on a charge of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
