MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. (TCD) --
A Maryland woman was arrested after she allegedly slashed her 3-year-old daughter's neck and her own with a pair of scissors.
The Montgomery County Police Department said a relative went to Anne Akers' home in the Wheaton-Glenmont neighborhood at about 10:50 a.m. Saturday and noticed blood on the floor of the residence. Police said he left and called 911.
Responding officers found blood and a pair of scissors on the floor.
Officers discovered Akers in a bedroom with a laceration on her neck. They removed a blanket she was holding and found her daughter with a "life-threatening laceration to her neck."
Officers began life-saving measures on the 3-year-old before she was flown via Maryland State Police helicopter to a hospital with life-threatening injuries.
Doctors told detectives the girl's wounds would have been fatal had she not been helped by first responders at the scene, according to Montgomery County Police.
Anne Akers, 28, was hospitalized with serious injuries before being booked into jail. She was charged with first-degree child abuse, first-degree assault and attempted second-degree murder. She was held without bond.
