PUEBLO, Colo. (TCD) -- Police recently arrested two people in connection with the deaths of two missing children, one of whom was found encased in concrete.
According to a news release from the Pueblo Police Department, on Jan. 20, shortly after 8:30 a.m., officers responded to the 600 block of West 6th Street, where they found a "suspicious" metal container in a storage unit filled with hardened concrete. During a search of the metal container, investigators found a young female child’s remains.
According to police, at the time of the discovery, investigators were working to locate two missing children, Jesus Dominguez and Yesenia Dominguez, who were last seen in the summer of 2018.
Yesenia Dominguez was 3 years old when she went missing and would now be around 9 years old. Her brother, Jesus Dominguez, was approximately 5 years old when he disappeared and would now be 10.
According to police, no one had reported Yesenia Dominguez or Jesus Dominguez Jr. missing, and officers did not learn about their disappearance until Jan. 20.
On Jan. 31, police interviewed 35-year-old Jesus Dominguez Sr. and 36-year-old Corena Minjarez in connection with the case. At the time, Jesus Dominguez was arrested for an outstanding warrant.
According to KUSA-TV, Jesus Dominguez is the father of the two missing children, and Minjarez is his girlfriend.
Police learned the children might be in Phoenix, but investigators later found out that was not the case.
Detectives reportedly found Minjarez's vehicle in a local scrap yard and searched it on Feb. 6. Inside, police discovered a suitcase in the trunk that contained the remains of a young boy.
According to officers, on Thursday, Feb. 15, investigators determined the remains found in the metal container belonged to Yesenia Dominguez. They also confirmed the remains in the suitcase were those of Jesus Dominguez Jr.
At approximately 3:40 p.m. that day, officers obtained arrest warrants for Minjarez and Jesus Dominguez Sr. on charges of first-degree murder and abuse of a corpse. Jesus Dominguez was also charged with theft of government benefits.
Police arrested Minjarez and booked her into the Pueblo County Detention Center on $2 million bond.
Police located Jesus Dominguez on Feb. 16 and took him into custody. He also remains held in the Pueblo County Detention center on $2 million bond.
