FRESNO, Calif. (TCD) -- A 41-year-old man was arrested after he allegedly killed his pregnant sister, transported her body in a trash bin, then burned her.
According to Fresno Police Chief Paco Balderrama, on Tuesday, Dec. 13, the Fresno Police and Fire Departments received a call at 12:30 p.m. on the 4400 block of North Cornelia Avenue, an unpaved alley. Responding officials saw a fire and noticed a victim who had been engulfed in flames. The victim, 26-year-old N-Kya Logan, was pronounced dead.
Balderrama said Logan was stabbed to death, then set on fire. She was 36 weeks pregnant and attended her baby shower on Sunday, Dec. 11.
Police uncovered evidence at the scene, as well as surveillance video that reportedly led them to Logan’s 41-year-old brother, Aaron Dudley. Cameras reportedly caught Dudley pushing a trash bin into the alley, and Balderrama believes Logan "was put in the trash bin before she was taken to the alley and set on fire."
Fresno Police detectives searched the home where Dudley and Logan lived with their mother and reportedly uncovered additional evidence. Dudley was arrested as he was running away from the residence, which Balderrama said is "very typical of a guilty person."
Fresno County District Attorney Lisa Smittcamp also spoke at the press conference and said she anticipates Dudley will be charged with two counts of first-degree murder with special circumstances.
According to Balderrama, the baby, who N-Kya planned on naming Noah, also reportedly suffered stab wounds. He said investigators believe Dudley allegedly killed Logan at their home, then "attempted to dispose of the body" by lighting her on fire.
The family lived about four blocks from the alley where Logan was found.
Dudley is being held in the Fresno County Jail.
