BRUNSWICK, Maine (TCD) -- An 87-year-old woman who woke up to a teen standing over her bed and threatening her fought him off and then gave him snacks.
On July 26 at 10:25 a.m., Brunswick Police Department officers responded to a home on Beverly Drive after receiving a call from a woman who reported a man entered her home while she was asleep. The woman awoke to the suspect, a teenager, "standing over her." Brunswick Police said the teen "threatened to kill her with a knife he brought into the house."
The knife, however, was reportedly not on his person and instead in another room with some of his other items. He then pushed the female and ran out of the house, leaving behind his shoes.
Police began investigating and had a "juvenile suspect in mind." Officers went to his home and said he matched the description given by the victim. An officer and his K-9 located the teen nearby and arrested him on charges of burglary, criminal trespassing, and assault. He was booked into the Long Creek Youth Development Center and not publicly identified because he is a juvenile.
The victim, Marjorie Perkins, told WQRF-TV the man was inside her home at around 2 a.m. and took off his pants before threatening her.
She said she wanted to fight back if the suspect attacked her, saying, "I thought to myself, if he’s going to cut, then I’m going to kick."
The two got into a physical altercation, and he allegedly hit her in the head and cheek. Then, he went to her kitchen. The suspect reportedly told Perkins he was "awfully hungry," so she gave him a box of crackers, two protein drinks, and two tangerines.
WQRF reports the suspect left numerous personal items behind, including shoes, a shirt, a knife, and a water bottle with alcohol in it.
