ST. CHARLES, Mo. (TCD) --
A Missouri man was arrested for murder after he allegedly shot his wife in the face during a violent argument late Sunday, St. Charles Police announced Monday.
Officers responded to a reported medical emergency at a St. Charles residence on the 3100 block of Ridgeview Street shortly before midnight and found a 34-year-old woman with a gunshot wound to the head inside the home. The woman, identified as Crystal Hanshew, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said Aaron Guilliams, 31, told detectives he and his wife were arguing, which escalated to violence, and he admitted to shooting his wife. Police recovered a .45-caliber handgun at the scene believed to be the murder weapon.
The couple had been married for about eight months, police said.
The St. Charles Prosecuting Attorney's Office charged Guilliams with with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Guilliams was held at the St. Charles County Department of Corrections on a $500,000 cash-only bond.
The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that Guilliams told police Hanshew struck him during the argument, at which point he retrieved a .45-caliber semi-automatic pistol and confronted his wife, saying he never should have married her and pointing the gun at her face, according to a police probable cause statement. Hanshew said he wouldn't pull the trigger and Guilliams then fired, fatally wounding his wife, the Post-Dispatch reports, citing the statement.
