Oklahoma woman accused of lying about boy's cancer treatment to get money

POTEAU, Okla. (TCD) --

A 46-year-old woman has been accused of lying about a boy in her guardianship's cancer treatment and soliciting money via online donations for his treatment.

The Poteau Police Department published a statement Wednesday regarding Ariana Noelle Gregg's arrest and the allegations against her.

Police said Gregg's wife called police after Gregg and the 6-year-old in her care left Oklahoma on May 25 and said they were traveling to Saint Jude Children's Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, for his treatment.

According to the statement, the unnamed woman who reported Gregg learned they were not at Saint Jude, and Gregg allegedly "made false claims about the boy's cancer."

Gregg and the boy had reportedly traveled to Saginaw, Michigan, instead, with an "online acquaintance" of Gregg.

Poteau Police  worked alongside the Leflore County DHS Child Welfare Services, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, and the FBI to locate Gregg and the boy, who were located in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

The boy was taken into custody by child welfare services in Indiana. Gregg was released at the time because a warrant was not issued at that time.

On June 1, Gregg was arrested by Poteau Police on an outstanding warrant for child abuse charges.

The statement says Gregg "used various online and social media platforms to solicit donations under the guise of funding the boy’s treatment expenses."
