OAKLAND COUNTY, Mich. (TCD) -- An 18-year-old man was arrested and charged after allegedly impersonating a police officer and pulling over a real cop earlier this week.
According to a news release from the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, on Monday, April 3, shortly after 11 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a possible police impersonator near M-59 and Crooks Road in Rochester Hills. A suspect in a silver BMW, later identified as Christian Katan Mansoor, reportedly tried to pull over an off-duty Waterford Township police officer.
The Sheriff’s Office said the off-duty officer recounted that "Mansoor passed her near Dequindre and Hamlin Road, and she followed him to confront him." She reportedly identified herself as a real police officer, and Mansoor told her he was an officer with the 12th Precinct of the Detroit Police Department. When she asked him for identification, he allegedly told her he needed to get back into his car to grab it.
Mansoor then reportedly returned to his car and fled the scene. According to the Sheriff’s Office, the off-duty officer followed him to a trailer park, but she couldn’t find him. Deputies eventually located Mansoor removing the license plates from the BMW and placing them on another BMW he owned.
Mansoor was arrested following a brief foot chase and arraigned on April 5 for impersonating a public officer. He was reportedly released after posting a $5,000 bond.
In a statement, Sheriff Michael Bouchard said, "Individuals that pose as police officers present a threat to the public and undermine legitimate law enforcement. Thankfully, this individual was caught and is being held accountable for this incident."
Bouchard continued, "But if you had a similar incident with this described automobile or this pictured individual, please contact us."
