PUEBLO, Colo. (TCD) -- Police arrested a 42-year-old man last week for allegedly killing his 90-year-old father when they got into an argument about money.
In a statement, the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office said deputies took Paul Benjamin Sandoval into custody Friday, March 31, on a charge of second-degree murder and robbery of an at-risk adult following a months-long investigation into the death of Benny Sandoval.
According to the Sheriff's Office, on Sept. 8, 2022, at 1:15 a.m., deputies were called to a home on Pueblo West for a family disturbance and learned Paul Sandoval allegedly grabbed his father by the neck and pushed him to the ground during an altercation. Benny Sandoval reportedly did not seek medical treatment following the argument, nor did he want to press charges against his son.
The same day, paramedics responded to a medical call at Benny Sandoval's house and transported him to a local hospital. He was then transferred to a hospital in Colorado Springs due to bleeding in his brain.
Benny Sandoval died Sept. 30, 2022. The coroner determined he died from blunt force trauma to the head and ruled his manner of death a homicide.
Paul Sandoval was booked into the Pueblo County Jail with his bond set at $500,000.
