Texas man recently released from jail accused of killing mom, leaving body in zipped bag

IRVING, Texas (TCD) -- A 52-year-old man stands accused of killing his mother earlier this week after being released from jail in late January.
According to a press release from the Irving Police Department, officers responded to the 600 block of Brookstone Drive on Monday, Feb. 1, at approximately 12:30 p.m. to conduct a welfare check. At the scene, officers reportedly forced entry into the home and found Christopher Coggins hiding in the attic. Police say they discovered his deceased mother, 81-year-old Laverne Coggins, "inside a large zippered bag in the garage."
Christopher was reportedly arrested and charged for the murder of his mother.
According to police, Christopher has a criminal past and was charged with unlawful restraint and injury to an elderly individual stemming from June 2021. Police say on Jan. 27, Christopher was released on probation from Dallas County Jail.
