'David Makes Man' actor Akili McDowell arrested for allegedly fatally shooting man in parking lot

HOUSTON (TCN) -- An actor known for his role on the Oprah Winfrey Network show "David Makes Man" was arrested over the weekend for allegedly shooting and killing a 20-year-old man last month.
According to the Harris County Sherif Ed Gonzalez, on July 20, deputies were called to an apartment complex parking lot in East Harris County, where they found a 20-year-old man suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. Gonzalez said the suspect or suspects fled the scene following the incident.
In an update, Gonzalez announced homicide detectives arrested 21-year-old Akili McDowell on a count of murder in connection with Cesar Peralta’s death. He was booked into the Harris County Jail, where he is being held on $400,000 bond. He was charged with theft in July 2023, which is listed on the charges on the Harris County Jail website.
McDowell has appeared on 20 episodes of "David Makes Man" and two episode of "Billions," and also had a role in "The Waterboyz."
