LAS VEGAS (TCD) -- A 62-year-old man stands accused of slaying his wife and barricading himself inside a vehicle on a highway this week.
According to a news release from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, on Monday, July 24, at around 12:24 a.m., officers responded to a report of a man hitting his wife at a home in the 9800 block of Shadow Grove Avenue. An individual in his 20s reported to police that his sister told him their mother was being strangled, KLAS-TV reports.
At the scene, officers reportedly found an unresponsive woman in her 40s with stab wounds, and medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene. Police said the suspect, Alexander Fitzgerald Marshall, fled the scene before officers arrived.
Marshall was married to the victim.
According to KLAS, investigators allege the suspect and his wife got into a dispute before Marshall stabbed her.
The suspect allegedly fled the scene before officers arrived and barricaded himself inside a maroon Nissan pickup truck near Interstate 215 and Pecos Road.
At approximately 5:30 a.m., Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department SWAT reportedly took Marshall into custody and transported him to a local hospital for self-inflicted injuries.
Marshall was booked in absentia into the Clark County Detention Center on a charge of open murder and is scheduled to appear in court July 27.
According to KLAS, due to the incident, highway traffic was shut down Monday morning but picked back up at around 9 a.m.
