Woman found dead with 'trauma to her body' near Phoenix hiking trail

PHOENIX (TCD) -- Investigators are searching for a man they believe attacked and killed a 29-year-old woman on a hiking trail over the weekend.
According to a statement, on Saturday, April 29, Phoenix Police received a call about an injured person in a "desert area" near 6500 E. Libby St. Fire Department officials declared the victim deceased at the scene and identified her as Lauren Heike. Phoenix Police said she had "trauma to her body."
On Tuesday, May 2, Phoenix Police released a short video of a man they identified as a person of interest in Heike’s death. The video shows the man wearing dark pants, a gray shirt, and backpack as he walks or runs along the trail.
In a press conference, Lt. James Hester said Heike died Friday, April 28. He said he believes she was "attacked from behind and died as a result of her injuries."
