RACINE, Wis. (TCD) -- A teenager reportedly shot his 14-year-old girlfriend in the head several times because he was allegedly angry she broke up with him and posted on social media.
According to the Racine Police Department, on Sunday, Jan. 8, at 11:42 a.m., officers responded to 21st Street and South Memorial Drive for reports of a juvenile girl shot and found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was transported to a nearby hospital and then airlifted to another hospital in Milwaukee in serious condition.
Police said they took a juvenile male into custody.
WITI-TV reports the suspect is also 14 years old.
The criminal complaint cited by WITI says the girl could still talk to investigators "despite her very serious injuries."
According to the Racine County Eye, which also cites the complaint, the two teens went to nearby railroad tracks to smoke, and the girl told the suspect she wanted to end their relationship. The suspect allegedly grabbed her phone and threw it out of the way, then shot her.
The victim reportedly pleaded for her life, but he shot her two more times. The Racine Journal Times reports the suspect told her, "You have to die."
She managed to run away and seek help. The complaint reportedly says she suffered three or four gunshot wounds to the head, including one that went in through her eye and was stuck in the carotid artery in her neck. She is reportedly getting treatment at Children’s Hospital in Milwaukee.
The Racine County Eye reports police officers located the suspect at a house he had been to earlier that day and found a .22 handgun and two magazines for another type of gun. Police also found bloody clothes at the boy’s home.
The suspect allegedly told police he shot the girl because he was angry about the breakup and because of some posts she made on Snapchat.
He is reportedly being held on $500,000 cash bond on charges of first-degree attempted intentional homicide and possession of a dangerous weapon by a person under 18.
