WOOD COUNTY, Ohio (TCD) -- A 38-year-old woman and her 42-year-old husband were taken into custody for allegedly hog-tying their 12-year-old son for hours as a form of punishment.
Law enforcement officials arrested Tabetha and Jason Sosnowicz and booked them into the Wood County Jail for endangering children — administering corporal punishment. Jason’s bond was set at $75,000, 100% required, whereas Tabetha’s is $25,000, 100% required.
According to the criminal complaint, on July 22, a Northwood Police Department officer was called to the Baymont Hotel to conduct a welfare check on a 12-year-old boy because there was a report that he “might be tied up in the room.”
The officer went up to the room and found Jason Sosnowicz and the boy, whose wrists were "tied behind his back with white shoe strings, and his wrists were tied to his ankles." He was reportedly on the ground next to the bed in the hotel room, where the family reportedly lives. Jason reportedly told the officer he tied up the boy — his stepson — because he "gets into things."
Tabetha Sosnowicz returned to the hotel room and allegedly told the officer she knew her son had been bound, and they kept him that way because he supposedly takes candy while they sleep. Tabetha and Jason Sosnowicz allegedly tied up the boy at 3 a.m., and he remained that way until the officer found him at 12:30 p.m.
According to the criminal complaint, the parents said they "normally" tie up the boy "to keep him from accessing candy while they are asleep."
WTVG-TV reports a 6-year-old and 14-year-old were also in the hotel room, but they were not bound. Neither Tabetha nor Jason Sosnowicz is allowed to have contact with the boy.
