BATH, Maine (TCD) -- A 44-year-old man is accused of fatally strangling his mother with her lanyard after an argument.
According to Maine State Police, on Tuesday, May 24, at approximately 11:35 a.m., Bath Police Department officers were called to an apartment complex at 125 Congress St. When they arrived, they reportedly found 66-year-old Jeanine Ross deceased inside her residence.
Maine State Police’s Major Crimes Unit were called in to assist "due to the circumstances surrounding the death." The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy and ruled her death a homicide. Her son, Jason Ibarra, was taken into custody on a murder charge.
Police say Ibarra had been living with Ross when she was killed.
The Bangor Daily News, citing court documents, reports Ross was strangled with a lanyard string that held her keys. Ibarra reportedly appeared very intoxicated when Bath Police arrived at the scene. He was initially taken to the hospital before being transported to a regional jail.
Court documents reportedly say Jason’s brother, Shane Ibarra, called police after Jason called him to report he killed their mother. Jason allegedly told police he "killed his mom, he killed their mom and that he had to do it, she attacked him first."
According to WGME-TV, Ibarra is being held at Two Bridges Jail on $100,000 bond.
