SEATTLE (TCD) -- A 54-year-old man has been arrested and charged with murder for allegedly stabbing his stepdaughter more than 100 times as she tried to protect her mother from him.
On the morning of Aug. 7, Seattle Police responded to a home on the 5300 block of 31st Avenue South in the city’s Beacon Hill neighborhood and found a 50-year-old woman in the doorway with serious injuries. Police helped the woman and her 73-year-old mother out of the home and they were transported to local hospitals, where the 50-year-old was listed in stable condition.
As police went inside to search for more victims, they found a man with a knife and a deceased 21-year-old woman.
KCPQ-TV identified the suspect as Nghiep Chau and the victim as Angelina Tran. King County court records show Chau is being charged with two counts of premeditated first-degree murder.
According to court documents cited by KCPQ, Tran reportedly heard Chau hitting her mother, so she went downstairs to intervene. Tran tried to pull them apart, and then she and Chau reportedly got into an altercation. While she was down on the ground, Chau allegedly picked up a kitchen knife and stabbed her. Tran’s mother reportedly called 911 during the struggle.
The stabbings, however, reportedly did not occur all at once. At one point, Chau allegedly got up to go change his clothes. Then, he reportedly stopped to switch knives. He also tried to look for his wife in the house. KING-TV reports Tran sustained at least 107 stab wounds.
Chau and Tran’s mother had been together for 19 years.
When police arrived, he allegedly said he planned to kill his wife.
Chau is in custody at the King County Jail with bail set at $5 million.
