CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. (TCD) -- A federal judge sentenced "Trap Queen" rapper Fetty Wap this week to six years behind bars for trafficking drugs to dealers in New York and New Jersey.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York announced the sentencing Wednesday, May 24, and added that the rapper, whose real name is William Junior Maxwell II, will also have five years of post-release supervision for conspiracy to distribute cocaine. Another defendant was sentenced to six years in prison for drug trafficking, while four others are still awaiting sentencing.
Maxwell pleaded guilty to the conspiracy charge in August, according to The Associated Press.
The rapper and five others were indicted in October 2021 on charges of conspiring to distribute and possess controlled substances. Five co-defendants also faced firearms charges. The U.S. Attorney’s Office alleged the six men sold over 100 kilograms of drugs, including cocaine, heroin, crack, and fentanyl across New Jersey and Long Island. They reportedly bought the drugs on the West Coast, then worked with United States Postal Service drivers to transport the drugs in secret compartments across the country.
Maxwell worked as a "kilogram-level redistributor for the trafficking organization."
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, investigators found $1.5 million in cash, 16 kilograms of cocaine, 2 kilograms of heroin, two 9 mm handguns, several fentanyl pills, a rifle, .45 caliber pistol, .40 caliber pistol, and ammunition.
