Homicide investigation underway after body found in Michigan house fire

KALAMAZOO TOWNSHIP, Mich. (TCD) -- A homicide investigation is underway after the body of a man was found inside a house fire.
According to a news release from the township of Kalamazoo Police Department, on Saturday, June 18, shortly after 8 p.m., the township of Kalamazoo Fire Department responded to a report of a house fire in the 1500 block of Shakespeare Avenue. Upon their arrival, fire personnel quickly extinguished the fire and reportedly found an unresponsive person, James Travis, inside.
The 53-year-old victim was pronounced dead at the scene, police say. An autopsy performed by the Kalamazoo County Medical Examiner’s Office reportedly ruled Travis’ death a homicide.
According to WWMT-TV, the victim was described by family and friends as a father of two children who was soft-spoken, gentle, and hardworking.
Police have asked for the public’s help with gathering any information related to the event. The investigation remains ongoing.
