CLINTON COUNTY, N.Y. (TCD) -- A husband and wife from Ohio were arrested last week several years after one of their children died from abuse and malnourishment.
On Sept. 26, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office announced deputies from their office and agents from the U.S. Marshal Service located Katherine and John Snyder II, both 51, and took them into custody on a warrant out of Springfield, Ohio. The press release listed Katherine as the arrestee, but reports say both are accused of killing their 8-year-old son, Adam Snyder.
Hamilton County Court records show Katherine Snyder faces 26 criminal charges against her, including murder, aggravated murder, and endangering children. WXIX-TV reports John faces the same charges.
According to WCAX-TV, Katherine and John lived in Clinton County from 2017 to 2021 and were likely in town visiting friends or family when they were arrested. Adam Snyder reportedly died in 2016 and his death was ruled a homicide from blunt force trauma. Katherine and John’s other children also reportedly showed signs of abuse and malnourishment, WCAX reports.
WXIX reports experts hired by Katherine and John said the little boy died from "septicemia with profound neuropsychiatric illness," which means blood poisoning due to bacteria. The abuse reportedly occurred over the course of two years, ending around the same time Adam died in early October 2016.
John and Katherine reportedly adopted five children and had one biological child. Hamilton County Department of Jobs and Family Services obtained custody of the other five children.
The couple remains in custody in New York and will be extradited to Ohio.
