HORRY COUNTY, S.C. (TCD) -- A 42-year-old woman and her two children were found fatally shot in their home this week.
According to a statement, on Aug. 31 at 1:45 p.m., the Horry County Police Department responded to a call on Centennial Circle in the Carolina Forest and said there was no threat to the area. In an update, police said officers went to the home to conduct a welfare check and found three deceased people inside.
WMBF-TV reports the Horry County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as 42-year-old Laura Moberley, 11-year-old Eric Moberley, and 8-year-old Emily Moberley. They all reportedly suffered gunshot wounds, and investigators believe they had been killed not long before officers arrived.
Laura’s husband, William, reportedly filed for separation in June. The two reportedly had a temporary court hearing scheduled for Aug. 30.
The Myrtle Beach Sun News reports Laura worked as a reading loss interventionist at Carolina Forest Elementary School.
The school district reportedly wrote in a statement, "We are at a loss for words after learning of the tragic incident that affected an entire family with ties to Horry County Schools. We lift our strongest prayers for the Moberley family and for everyone who knew them. We encourage our community to keep our students and staff in their thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time."
The investigation remains ongoing.
